Goddess Katyayani of the sixth day
On the sixth day, Navdurga is pleased by worshiping the form of Goddess Katyayani. Goddess Katyayani rides a lion, on this day worship is done wearing red clothes. There is a famous story about the incarnation of Goddess Katyayani, it is told in the Puranas, that Rishi Katyayana meditated for many years to get Goddess Bhagwati as his daughter. Seeing the severe penance of Maharishi, impressed by his severe penance, Goddess Bhagwati herself came and gave him darshan. When Goddess Bhagwati asked the reason for his severe penance, Rishi Katyayana said that he wanted Goddess Bhagwati to be born in his house as a daughter. Goddess Bhagwati granted Maharishi Katyayana's wish to be born as his daughter and assured him that she would certainly take birth in his home as his daughter.
According to mythological beliefs and Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji in ancient times, when Mahishasura's attacks on the universe and Devas increased, all the Devas, troubled by all these pains and attacks, thought it right to go to Tridev. When Tridev came to know about this, a strong flame came out of his mouth due to anger. This strong flame took birth in the house of Maharishi Katyayana in the form of Goddess Katyayani. This is the reason why Maa Katyayani got this name. Maharishi Katyayana worshiped the Goddess on all three days (Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami) after her birth. After this, Goddess Katyayani killed Mahishasura on Dashmi.
After the killing of Mahishasura, this form of Maa Durga also came to be known as Mahishasura Mardini. By killing Mahishasura, Maa Katyayani saved all the Devas and the world from the negative powers of demons. After this, Maa disappeared from Maharishi Katyayan.
The charming form of the Maa always attracts the devotees. Paras Bhai Ji says that there is radiance on the face of Maa Katyayani. Worshiping this form of Navdurga solves all the problems of the devotees' lives. The form of Maa Katyayani is exceptionally captivating. She rides a lion and has four arms; two of her arms hold a lotus flower and a sword, while one hand is in Vara Mudra and the other in Abhaya Mudra. Maa Bhagwati loves the red color very much. Maa is pleased by offering red flowers. For those devotees who worship Maa Katyayani with proper rituals, Maa Katyayani fulfills all their desires and paves new paths for the devotees in life.
