In India, the Sanatanis worship the huge idols of Maa Bhagwati in big Pandals on this occasion. Such a congregation is especially held in big cities like Kolkata. The end of these nine holy days which began on 3rd October is now near. On Ashtami, the cherished form of Maa Durga, known as Mahagauri, is being honored every year.
Form of Maa Mahagauri:
Maa showered her blessing on the devotees on this special Day. Maa Mahagauri is the one who fills the Jholiyan, the devotees of Maa Mahagauri never return home disappointed. On this day, after the worship of Maa Mahagauri, the devotees make eight girls or Kanjaks in their house by doing Ashtami embroidery and offer the prasad to them. Some people do this process on Ashtami and some people do it on Navami. According to Shiv Puran and Mahant Shri Paras Bhai Ji, Maa Mahagauri had experienced her previous birth in her childhood, due to which Maa Mahagauri started performing Yagya and penance from the very beginning to attain Lord Shiva. After this infinite and difficult penance, the body of Maa Mahagauri became completely black. After difficult Yagya and years of waiting, Lord Mahadev accepted Maa Mahagauri as his wife.
After that Lord Mahadev made Maa Mahagauri take a bath with Gangajal, after bathing in Ganga, the Kaushiki form of Parvati Maa came out with a dark complexion and another form shining like the bright moon came out. After this, Maa Mahagauri's body became radiant, making her beauty the most enchanting in the world. The color of Maa Mahagauri's clothes is also white, and Maa rides on a white bull i.e. Vrishabha, Lord Shiva also rides a bull. Similar to Mahadev, the Damru rests in the left hand of Maa Mahagauri, which is why she is also referred to as Shiva. Apart from this, the upper right hand of Maa Durga is in Abhaya Mudra and the lower hand has Trishul.
Maa Mahagauri's form radiates a luminous brilliance, resembling the glow of the moon. She bestows blessings of wealth and prosperity. Devotees who worship the maa with devotion get beauty and all the obstacles in marriage etc. are removed.
Ashtami Puja
Before the end of the nine days of Shardiya Navratri, devotees can end their fast by worshiping girls on Ashtami. After worshiping Maa Bhagwati with the usual rituals, Prasad is offered to eight girls. By offering Prasad to them, they are pleased by giving them things of their choice and the blessings of the Maa are obtained. Devotees receive the blessings of Maa Bhagwati by chanting Jai Mata Di. Girls are seen as the symbol of Maa Durga, this is the reason why daughters are given the status of goddesses in Sanatan Dharma.
